It's time for the group of instruments that form the foundation of harmony for the entire symphonic orchestra - the double basses and cellos. The artists of our orchestra will showcase the surprising capabilities of these majestic instruments in a diverse repertoire: classical, cinematic, entertaining, and fairy-tale.

 

The cello, from the Italian "violoncello," meaning "little big violin," despite its considerable size, weighs only 3 kg. It is a versatile instrument that excels both in orchestras and as a solo instrument. However, solo double bass concertos are rare, perhaps because their sound is humorously likened to the noise of a sliding wardrobe.

 

And did you know that the largest double bass is the three-string octobass, which measures nearly 3.5m?
