As a prologue resounds, a choral hymn to Fortuna – the fickle and capricious goddess of human fate?

Part I: About Spring – songs praising the beauty of nature awakening to life with spring, when Phoebus, the sun, drives away the Earth with its rays, and Flora adorns the world with fresh greenery, as well as songs celebrating May, which ignites love in human hearts. Girls ask the wandering peddler for paints to paint their cheeks and lure boys to them.

Part II: In the Tavern – songs full of fantasy resound over the goblet, one of them is a praise of earthly life, another speaks of feelings... ...the swan, stewed in a pot, complains about the changeability of earthly fortunes, the third parodies liturgical songs in a humorous way. In the end, everyone intones a praise to Bacchus.

Part III: About Love – speaks of the delights and anxieties of love. At the end, the choir sings in honor of Venus – but since it is not Venus but Fortuna who truly rules the world, the entire work closes with a repetition of the initial hymn in her honor.

Carmina Burana is an absolute hit of classical music, fragments of this work are used by many performers, both creators of music for advertisements and heavy metal bands. Each performance fills the halls to the last seat. The motto of the entire piece is the apotheosis of life and the affirmation of the world. The composition is scored for orchestra, choir, and solo voices, dominated by rhythm and straightforwardly harmonized choral parts. The most famous part is – known not only to music lovers – the choral song "O Fortuna" which begins and ends the piece.
