The Ballet of the Lodz Grand Theatre continues the tradition of the Lodz Opera company, whose creator and excellent choreographer was Feliks Parnell, and whose first director was Witold Borkowski, an outstanding dancer, teacher and choreographer. The almost 70-year history of the company is made up of dozens of excellent premieres of classical and contemporary ballets, performed by the best Polish choreographers (including T. Kujawa, C. Drzewiecki, J. Makarowski, E. Wesołowski, E. Wycichowska, J. Przybyłowicz) and foreign (including E. Walter, G. Casado, K. Jooss, B. Ejfman, A. Fodor, L. Massine, G. Veredon, G. Madia). It is also the rich artistic achievements of many outstanding dancers who created the tradition of the company. The comprehensive development of the ballet company over the years has been ensured not only by excellent teachers and choreographers, but also by the great artistic personalities who managed it. The Lodz Grand Theatre presented its performances on stages almost all over Europe during numerous foreign tours. Currently, under the management of Gintautas Potockas, it has over 50 artists and is prepared to present both classic ballet and performances using contemporary dance techniques. The latest production by the Łódź company is The Nutcracker. A Christmas Carol, with choreography by Youri Vámos.
