"The Man from the Manufactory" is a tale delving into the turbulent events in the history of the multicultural metropolis of Łódź. The first act portrays episodes from the life of the 19th-century industrialist Izrael Poznański, known as the Cotton King, and reaches into a significant event, the general strike of workers against factory owners in 1892 (known as the Łódź insurrection). The action of the second act takes place about 100 years later, at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries. It depicts the actions of the post-war director of the "Poltex" Cotton Industry Works after the fall of the Polish People's Republic, the process related to the closure of the factory, and the vision of the future of this place, now known in Europe as the Łódź Manufaktura. However, the historical-political-economic background serves as a pretext for a story about the fate of Łódź inhabitants and the metaphysical experiences of man in the face of death, the timeless struggle of good against evil. In the revitalized post-industrial space, the premiere of the outdoor version of the spectacle "The Man from the Manufactory" took place on the Market of Łódź Cotton Weavers in Manufaktura (May 18, 2019).

Funded by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage from the Culture Promotion Fund as part of the "Music" program implemented by the Institute of Music and Dance.

The extraordinary GOLDEN MASK in the 2018/2019 season was awarded to the Grand Theatre for the historical significance of the project competition for contemporary opera "The Man from the Manufactory", culminating in a spectacular premiere on the theater's stage and an outdoor presentation at the Manufaktura Market Square, which proved to be a nationally significant event.
