A Concert in Tribute to a Fighting Ukraine

The concert Holding the Sky Together is an artistic gesture of solidarity, remembrance, and hope. In the face of the ongoing war, music becomes a space for shared breath—a place where pain, longing, and faith in survival can resonate with full voice. The evening’s program brings together masterpieces of European opera and Ukrainian national music, creating a symbolic dialogue between cultures and experiences that today converge at one point: the desire for freedom.

The performing artists—soloists connected with the classical music traditions of Ukraine and Poland—tell, through their interpretations, the story of a human being put to the test by fate. Konstanze’s aria from Mozart’s The Abduction from the Seraglio, the deeply moving scenes from Verdi’s La Traviata, and dramatic excerpts from Wagner’s operas carry a universal message of courage, fidelity, and readiness for sacrifice. These are emotions especially close today to the Ukrainian nation.

A special place in the program is given to Ukrainian music—both the folk song Na ulicy skrzypce grają (On the Street the Violins Are Playing) and works by Mykola Lysenko, Semen Hulak-Artemovsky, and Valentyn Sylvestrov. These pieces sound like the voice of a land that, despite suffering, does not cease to sing. They bear witness to a culture that cannot be silenced—a culture that endures despite the oppression of war. At the piano will be Natalia Gaponenko, and appearing on stage will be Joanna Moskowicz (soprano), Iryna Zhytynska (mezzo-soprano), Nazar Kachala (tenor), and Paweł Konik (baritone). Dancing for the audience will be Anatoliy Ivanov and Paulina Krawczyk-Ivanov. Together they create an evening that is not merely a musical event, but also an act of community—a tribute to a fighting Ukraine and an expression of faith that art can preserve the meaning of life in the most difficult of times.

The event is held under the Honorary Patronage of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, Marta Cienkowska, and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Republic of Poland, Vasyl Bodnar, as well as under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine.

The sponsor of the event is Hotel Kolumna Park, which provides accommodation for the invited artists.
