Gauthier Dance//Dance Company Theaterhaus Stuttgart | Germany
Producers:
Gauthier Dance//Dance Company Theaterhaus Stuttgart is a young, dynamic company of 16 highly individual, versatile dancers, directed by the dancer, choreographer and musician Eric Gauthier. The Dance Company Theaterhaus Stuttgart presents contemporary dance by Gauthier himself as well as internationally renowned choreographers such as Aszure Barton, Mauro Bigonzetti, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Marie Chouinard, Andonis Foniadakis, Johan Inger, Jiři Kylian, Benjamin Millepied, Marcos Morau, Ohad Naharin, Sofia Nappi, Hans van Manen und Sasha Waltz.
Parallel to its growing fame, Gauthier Dance has intensified collaborations with international star choreographers — most notably with artists in residence Marco Goecke (January 2019 to summer 2023), Hofesh Shechter (since summer 2021) und Barak Marshall (since the 2024/25 season) and Aszure Barton (from the 2025/26 season).
Set up in October 2007, Gauthier Dance established itself in the German dance scene with record speed and has become an international brand. The company’s artistic excellence is also marked by numerous prizes and awards, including two German theatre prizes THE FAUST and, most recently, two Golden Prague Awards for the widely recognized The Dying Swans Project, an energizing initiative for 64 artists set up in the spring of 2021. The company was the German Highlight in the yearbook of the specialist magazine tanz 2022 as well as Company of the Season in the tanznetz critics’ survey of the 2024/25 season.
In addition to the performances at its home base Theaterhaus Stuttgart, the company is busy touring to international dance cities including Toronto, New York, Tel Aviv, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Monaco, Quebec City, Montréal, Berlin and Chicago.
From the very beginning, Gauthier Dance also undertook an extensive Educational and Community Outreach programme, the first of its kind in Germany: GAUTHIER DANCE MOBILE. With a specially tailored repertory of works which could be adapted to small spaces, the pioneering format brought contemporary dance to people who cannot come to the theatre themselves. In 2022, Theaterhaus and Eric Gauthier opened a new chapter in the outreach programme — with the Gauthier Dance JUNIORS// Theaterhaus Stuttgart and MOVES FOR FUTURE. Until summer 2025, the JUNIORS have performed in front of 23.000 pupils at 78 schools.
Theaterhaus Stuttgart, which opened its doors in 1985, is a unique cultural centre which presents theatre, music, dance, cabaret, comedy, literature, political discussions and more on a total of four stages. Not only has Theaterhaus a long tradition of producing and presenting dance theatre; best known are the collaborations between Marcia Haydee and Ismail Ivo. It has also traditionally been and continues to be, a venue for the freelance dance scene in Stuttgart. Gauthier Dance is the First Resident Contemporary Dance Company in Stuttgart, since 2022 complemented by the young talents of the Gauthier Dance JUNIORS.
