9.06.2025We share the words of the composer of the opera The Adventures of Pinocchio, which we received after his visit to Poland!
My first visit to Poland was a truly wonderful experience. I’m so happy I was able to see Przygody Pinokia — twice! — and so grateful to Teatr Wielki w Łodzi for giving it such an extraordinary production, and for inviting me. It is deeply rewarding to see how something I wrote nearly twenty years ago has inspired the imaginations of theatre-makers in ways I never dreamed of.
This production is exceptional. The artists have excelled themselves. I’m happy to say that the orchestra was on fire under Rafał Janiak, and the soloists and chorus were all terrific.
Ola Starzyńska’s set and costume designs are incredible. When the three puppets appeared in chic black and white under the puppeteer's giant red hands, I thought I was going to cry from the beauty of the image, and the the terrifying red-eyed white rabbits completely took my breath away.
You can tell that director Robert Drobniuch is extremely experienced in creating work for young audiences: every moment is alive, there is always something intriguing to watch. The dancing birds that often accompany the Blue Fairy add a layer of poetry. But most importantly, he is an astonishing storyteller: every moment is fresh and vivid. I had goosebumps all the way through the finale, and was powerfully moved when Pinocchio became a real boy.
Thank you, Teatr Wielki w Łodzi!
Very best wishes
