END OF THE 2024-2025 SEASON

data dodania:
25.06.2025

And so it happened! With two performances of Gaetano Donizetti’s The Elixir of Love, directed by Wojciech Adamczyk, we concluded the 2024/2025 artistic season. This moment calls for reflection. In upcoming posts, we will provide detailed reports on our achievements across various areas of activity. Today, we will share about our artistic endeavors.

It was a very intense season during which we spared no effort to satisfy the artistic appetites of our audience. In the past season, we staged 6 premieres, including Giselle, La Bohème, The Elixir of Love, The Sea, as well as two family-friendly productions (Carnival of the Animals and The Adventures of Pinocchio). We also held the world premiere of Mountain Odyssey on the occasion of the release of the DVD Evening of Ballet by Polish Composers. We performed 60 opera shows and 45 ballet performances. Additionally, we gave 15 concerts, among which the Concert with a Star featuring a recital by Aleksandra Kurzak is certainly worth mentioning. There were also 9 special events, including the Opera Łódź Opener concerts. An important part of our activity are educational concerts, during which our artists met with young audiences 11 times. It is also worth remembering the Puccini Festival, the only one of its kind in the country, which took place in November 2024.

The total number of all artistic undertakings throughout the season reached an impressive 146! We are delighted that you visited the Grand Theatre in Łódź so frequently. The total number of tickets sold amounts to an impressive 100,000—more than 15,000 more than in the previous season.

Education and audience development are very important areas of activity at the Grand Theatre in Łódź. Our offer includes programs for both children and adults. Throughout the year, we conduct backstage tours of areas not accessible to the audience during performances. This season, we held 137 such tours, welcoming a total of 2,798 visitors who explored the theatre’s “kitchen.” Our visitors traditionally included schools, care and educational institutions, universities of the third age, and university students.

The workshops for our youngest audience, Opera on Cushions, were very popular. During the entire season, 1,564 children participated. Equally popular were the artistic workshops where older children learned about the secrets of theatre, ballet, and stage design. We hosted 1,565 students in these sessions.

Attendance at the Łódź Theatre Choir Verdiana and the Children’s and Youth Choir rehearsals was also impressive, with a total of 5,049 participants throughout the season. Another source of pride were the Sunday and Musical Mornings, featuring educational concerts and performances such as Hakuna Matata, Fairy Melody Academy, Carnival of the Animals, Orchestral ABC, Ballet ABC, Bemolek Discovers Music, as well as concerts by the Verdiana Choir and the Children’s and Youth Choir. These events attracted 6,859 spectators this season.

The concluding artistic season was also a time of intense work in terms of investments and fundraising. Our successes include:

  • Renovation of part of the high facade of the stage chimney, including plaster walls. This project was completed in October 2024, with a total cost of 1,020,900.00 PLN (gross).

  • Repair of the water connection to the main building of our theatre, carried out from September to November 2024. The value of this investment was 49,532.10 PLN (gross).

  • Installation of railings on the main stairs in the entrance hall of the Grand Theatre in Łódź, costing 37,515 PLN (gross) including purchase and installation.

We also purchased fixed assets that will serve our audience and secure backstage operations for years to come. Among them is a device ensuring uninterrupted power supply for telecommunication network equipment in case of power outages. The device’s cost was 120,970.50 PLN (gross).

Another important purchase was a new light board used for displaying subtitles during performances—77,465.44 PLN (gross)—as well as front stage lighting costing 139,007.22 PLN (gross).

The total value of these investments and fixed asset purchases amounts to 1,445,390.26 PLN (gross).

At the same time, we would like to remind you that the Grand Theatre in Łódź became a beneficiary of the FENX07.01 program: Infrastructure of Culture and Cultural Tourism, priority FENX.07 Culture under the European Funds for Infrastructure, Climate, Environment 2021-2027. Thanks to the project Adaptation and Modernization of the Grand Theatre Spaces in Łódź with Equipment and Furnishing Purchases, the spaces of our theatre will gain new life.

The total planned cost of the project is 48,416,197.34 PLN, with European Funds contributing 31,253,243.10 PLN.

We proudly present the concept of a new decoration warehouse. Preparatory work on its implementation has already begun!

Concluding our summary of the 2024/2025 artistic season, we cannot omit the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (KPO). Thanks to this support for the culture and creative industries sector, we received funding for as many as 9 projects, making us a leader among Polish opera theatres.
