Scaffolding at the Grand Theatre [photo report]
data dodania:
11.09.2026Scaffolding has gone up around the Grand Theatre in Łódź for the conservation of the main building's façade. The work is being carried out as part of the project “Adaptation and Modernisation of the Space of the Grand Theatre in Łódź, Including the Purchase of Equipment and Furnishings”, co-financed by the European Union.
The work will be carried out by a consortium of VIK-BUD Wiktorowicz Sp.k. and Pracownia Konserwatorska Michał Potz, selected through a public tender. The contract was signed on 9 July 2026 and is worth PLN 6.64 million gross. The contractor has provided a seven-year guarantee on the work.
The work will focus mainly on the sandstone cladding that gives the building its distinctive appearance. The cladding will be cleaned and repaired, and the joints rebuilt. The façade panels will be anchored, and the stone desalinated and impregnated. Conservators will also restore the stone relief frieze on the front of the building. Plans further include repairs to the crowning cornice and to the soffits of the arcades and loggias, as well as the conservation of the façade's metal elements: balustrades, railings and grilles. Damaged stone panels will be replaced and missing ones restored.
The Theatre remains open throughout the work, and the schedule is being coordinated to cause as little disruption as possible to rehearsals and performances. We will keep you updated as the work progresses.
The project is co-funded by the European Union and being implemented under measure FENX.07.01 Culture and Cultural Tourism Infrastructure, Priority FENX.07 Culture, as part of the European Funds for Infrastructure, Climate, Environment Programme 2021–2027.
