The 28th Lodz Ballet Festival is accompanied by the sculpture exhibition Bella Figura by Małgorzata Chodakowska.

Małgorzata Chodakowska is a Polish sculptor, born in 1965 in Łódź, who has lived and worked in Dresden since 1991. She attended the Fine Arts High School in Łódź, and in 1985 she began studying sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw under Professor Jan Kucz. In 1988, she continued her studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna in the studio of Professor Bruno Gironkola, graduating with a master’s award. In September 1989, she met her future husband in the Tatra Mountains, and they settled in Dresden. After completing her studies in Vienna, she returned to Dresden, where she works as an independent artist. In search of inspiration, Chodakowska traveled to Portugal, Egypt, and Cambodia. She is reluctant to part with her sculptures; only repeat bronze casts are offered for sale, while the original sculptures carved from tree trunks are kept in her studio. A hallmark of her work is the Stammfrauen—life-size sculptures created from tree trunks. She carves lime, pear, cherry, and oak wood, and since 2010 also ash. Her tools are a chisel and wooden mallet. Some of her sculptures are finished with acrylic paint, and since her trip to Egypt, she has also worked with gold. In the early 1990s, she created sculptures in tin and glass, and from the mid-1990s, also in bronze.
