NIOBE in an Unconventional Setting
Some may be surprised - a ballet performance in a theater's painting studio... However, artists increasingly - with great success - utilize unconventional settings not only to amaze but also to deepen the meaning of artistic presentations, provide a different perspective on the subject, and encourage the audience to reflect and interpret the presented issue on their own.
The choreographer - Antonina Jakubowska - for her ballet Niobe, with music by Jan Gromski - chose the theater's painting studio precisely for its specificity and atmosphere.
Niobe is a mythical queen of Thebes who, by offending the goddess Leto, was punished most severely - by the loss of her own offspring. Even Zeus himself, unable to bear Niobe's grief, turned her into a rock, yet even this did not alleviate the woman's pain, as she continued to shed tears even as a stone.
This tragic myth - as the author of the performance writes - is only a pretext for creating an original work: the dance theater performance was preceded by in-depth analyses, discussions, and choreotherapeutic workshops, the direct aim of which is to touch upon the subject of motherhood... I believe that through movement, I am able to convey the truth of feelings and attempt to soothe what is so difficult to express in words.
We highly recommend this unconventional ballet performance. Such an encounter with the art of dance in an unusual setting will surely surprise you but also bring moments of reflection and admiration for the plasticity of the human body, its movement, and expressive capabilities.
Join us for theater and dance in one; there will certainly be no shortage of emotions.
The performance was realized with the financial support of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage for the years 2021-2022.
