The Bacewicz String Quartet was formed in 2013. The ensemble consists of graduates from the Grażyna and Kiejstut Bacewicz Academy of Music in Łódź, the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, the Royal Conservatory in Brussels, and other European higher education institutions. The quartet members are laureates of solo and chamber music competitions, performing in various formations in Poland and many other European countries. Permanently associated with the musical environment of Łódź, they work at the Łódź Philharmonic, the Grand Theatre in Łódź, and the Academy of Music. Their passion for chamber music unites them, and their experience gained through versatile concert activities allows for the interpretation of chamber music with all its richness of forms and moods. The ensemble consists of: Ludwika Maja Tomaszewska-Klimek (1st violin), Hanna Drzewiecka-Borucka (2nd violin), Róża Wilczak (viola), and Małgorzata Smyczyńska-Szulc (cello).

 

The program of the evening NOT ONLY OPERA, although presented in the form of chamber works for string quartet, directly refers to opera literature through the composers – Verdi, Puccini, Respighi. In the works of these composers, one can often hear musical solutions typical of operatic scores, which undoubtedly brings even greater joy to the experienced music lover experiencing such exceptional chamber music. The operatic character of the string quartet pieces is further emphasized by the participation of Joanna Woś in one of them, who has specially prepared a vocal part composed by Respighi for this evening.
